Cleaning Blinds and Shutters
Imagine setting up a house party. Naturally we want to straighten things out and make sure everything is neat and tidy. We want the floors scrubbed clean, the walls wiped spotless, and the entire room immaculately and impeccably set. However, in all these house cleaning tasks, there’s one thing that’s virtually neglected every time; the windows and the blinds.
Windows are fairly easy to clean. Simply get a piece of cloth and wipe off the dust or dirt and you’re done. However, that is not the case with window blinds. These accessories require meticulous care when cleaning it, depending on its make, style, or material used. If you have Venetian or wooden, vinyl or aluminum, or horizontal, or vertical window blinds, you could use these simple tips on how to clean them.
Greasy window blinds made of aluminum material are easily taken care of by ammonia water; as an alternative, you can use detergent powder or baking soda in water. For window blinds made of cloth, simply take out the material and wash it with water and mild detergent.
To get rid of dirt or dust on cloth window blinds, you can use a vacuum cleaner. For aluminum blinds, simply spray a detergent-water mixture then wipe it clean with a dry, cotton rag. You can also take them out and wash it with running water.
As with the other two varieties, you can use a vacuum cleaner or a clean rag to remove the dirt or dust on wooden blinds. A feather duster or damp cloth can also be used.
Unlike horizontal blinds, dust isn’t prominent in vertical blinds. Probably because we think dust would simply slide off. Nevertheless vertical blinds still need regular cleaning. With the exception of wooden vertical blinds, which needs to be dusted, wiped, or vacuumed, the other blinds (those made of aluminum, cloth, or vinyl) can be cleaned with running water or soaked in the bathtub.
